Glossary of Terms
Class Class is a shipping industry standard that groups
all commodities into 18 categories (classes).
Class takes into account the density, stowability,
ease of handling and liability of your freight. The
rate we charge to ship your freight is dependent
on the class. Generally, the higher the class, the
more expensive to ship. If you don't know the
shipping class of your freight, contact the NMFTA
(nmfta.org) or contact the USF terminal nearest
you for assistance. Go to the Service Guide and
type in your zip code to find the USF terminal
nearest you.
Minimum charge A minimum charge is the amount that we will not
go below when shipping your freight. For example:
if you ship something with a total freight charge
that calculates, with your discount, an amount
below our minimum charge, we will increase the
freight charge to the minimum charge amount.
Please keep in mind that if you don't know your
minimum charge and leave this blank, the rate
you are quoted may be lower than the actual
freight charges when shipping. Please consult the
appropriate USF Rules Tariff for our standard
minimum charge floors.
